MEMORY LEAK with icaclient v21.3.0.38 amd64

mark nuccio

Question

When running the following, I noticed a memory leak on two different machines that ends up crashing the systems due to memory exhaustion:

icaclient v21.3.0.38 amd64;

ctxusb v21.3.0.38 amd64; and

HDX  RealTime Media Engine v2.9.300 x64.

To resolve the issue I had to remove the above and reinstall:

icaclient v21.1.0.14 amd64;

ctxusb v21.1.0.14 amd64; and

HDX  RealTime Media Engine v2.9.300 x64.

wfica memory usage is now stable at ~57MB on Linux Mint 20.1 based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Same issue with memory leak observed, watched by top (and atop).

After about 10-15 mins the OS becomes unresponsive reaching 100% swap.

1. icaclient_21.3.0.38_armhf.deb

     Linux 5.10.17-v7+ #1403 SMP armv7l - Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)

2. keyboard and mouse, USB headset

3. No

4. No

5. Launch workspace (Windows desktop in full window mode)

6. [ICA 3.0]

     KeyboardSync = On

Reverted back to the older icaclient version 21.1.0.14 to resolve the problem

Do you mind sharing more details about what applications were used and what operations were being done ?

Specifically, we would like to know:

  1. Did you plugin any USB devices ?
  2. Were you using any video call applications ?
  3. Were you playing any audio or video ?
  4. Any other applications/operations ?

Also have you made any changes to /opt/Citrix/ICAClient/config/module.ini ?

1. Linux Mint 20.1.  icaclient v21.3.0.38 x64

2. No

3. No

4. the only audio was normal system notification sounds

5. Workspace launches into a full windows desktop

6. Single change: added VdcamVersion4Support=False, as suggested by https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-workspace-app-for-linux/configure-xenapp.html#audio otherwise audio breaks when switching from external speakers to headphones and vice verse.
