Problem with Windows Remote Assistance (Windows 10, 1903)‎

IHK Muenchen Admin

Question

Hello, i would like to use Microsoft Remote Assistance from a Windows 10 VM (=Admin VM) via the Director to a User VM.

Windows 10 is Build 1903 (Admin & User VM)

Citrix Director is 1909.1.0

Citrix VDA is 1909.1.0.23058 (Admin & User VM)

Connect to the Admin VM with VMWare Remote Console the Remote Assistance to User VM works fine

Connect to the Admin VM via ICA the Remote Assistance doesn't work.

Error Message:

Windows Remote Assistance: msra.exe - Bad Image

C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICAService\PicaDdApi64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. **** Error Status 0xc0000428

Does anyone have an idea?

Hi!

We had the same problem with Windows 10 1903 and with Windows 10 1909.

After hours or maybe even days/weeks, findally today we solved this issue (for us)!!

Following this article: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX107825

we disabled Citrix hooking in to msra.exe

Our OS is Windows 10 64-bit, so we added just this regkey (as REG_SZ):

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\citrix\CtxHook]
"ExcludedImageNames"="msra.exe"

CHACKA!!!

Thank you SO MUCH!

This was driving me crazy. This fixed it for me.

We got a solution from citrix support:

Below action plan resolved the issue:

1.Create the below keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msra.exe]
QWORD
"MitigationOptions"=hex:00,00,00,00,10,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"MitigationAuditOptions"=hex:00,00,00,00,20,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00

2.Exclude msra.exe from Citrix hooking process.
By adding msra.exe to the following key UviProcessExcludes in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CtxUvi\ on the Windows 10 VDA

@IHK Muenchen Admin - What was your support case, please?

We are facing a similar issue.

We are also experiencing the same issue on Windows 10 1903 with VDA 1901 and 1906.2 installed on the system. We have tried installing remote assistance again on the admin Windows 1903 build but issue is not resolved. It appears that this may be a issue with Windows 1903 more than with Citrix as it works on previous installs of Windows. It should be noted though that in my earlier builds of Windows where from the admin side where remote assistance is working, the "C:\program files\citrix\icaservice" directory does not exist. It appears that the newer versions of the VDA client or Windows are referencing a dll that does not exist on the working builds of Windows.
