MS Edge (Edgium) POC on server 2016, application faults

Hi,

 

I'd like to run a POC with MS Edge based on Chromium on a VDA based on server 2016, but the application keeps faulting. Running it produces a lot of fault messages in the event log and several state that the file is not found or disk is missing. A VDA based on W2k8 runs fine. The same installer or a regular server 2016 runs fine too, just not the VDA.

 

It does show a window where Edge should be, but it's blanc. The only thing you can do is press enter after which it closes, running in the background.

 

Is anyone out there running into the same issues?

 

Citrix Virtual App 7.15 CU4, Edge Dev or Beta release (both fail), Windows server 2016 with latest patches.

Based on what your seeing, I turned off the Citrix API hooks for Edge.

 

Key: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CtxUvi 
Value Name: UviProcessExcludes 
Type: REG_SZ 
Value: badapp1.exe;badlongname.ex;badapp2.exe 

 

That makes it work, at least in the desktop session.

Hi,

I have seen the same behavior on Windows Server 2019. However yesterday I installed the latest "Enterprise" version and that work perfectly. Are you using the "Enterprise" version from here?

I just tried the Dev enterprise and I get the same result.

Hmm...are you by any chance using AppLocker?

Not by default, i just checked and its not in use.

Hmm...I was kind of suspecting AppLocker to be the culprit. Currently I am out of ideas.

Well for what it's worth...

I did some tests, to establish when Edge Dev broke and from what I saw Edge starting acting wierd as soon as the VDA was installed. A plain old RD Session Host server, didn't show any issues, but as soon as the VDA was installed, boom! Edge Dev broken...

If you require any hooking such as Smart Card, you only need to disable the SfrHook.  CAX Tool (https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX222592 ) helps with the configuration.

Is it just msedge.exe that you exclude please? 

for me on 6.5. Exclude from all hooks works. Exclude from SfrHook alone doesnt.

I've tried deploying edge in my environment and so far no success.  So far.....

 

• I've added the GPO to disable First-Run.
• I've added the Registry key for msedge.exe.

When I open up the browser, all I get is a blank white screen and rapid cursor flashing.  Is there something else I need to do in order to get it to run?  Restart services?
