Upgrade Windows Server 2008 running Citrix 7.6 to Windows SErver 2016

I am running a Citrix 7.6 environment on Windows Server 2008 platforms. Need to upgrade 2008 to 2016. This will include my Storefront servers, Delivery Controllers, application servers and desktop host servers. Having built a few new hosts running Windows server 2016, I had to install 7.15.3000. I want to do in-place upgrades of the OS and Citrix if possible.

 

Do I need to upgrade my Storefront servers version of Citrix to run on Windows Server 2016? Is there documentation on steps to upgrade Storefront servers, Delivery Controllers, applications servers and host desktop servers without interruption of services?

If you don't have a redundancy/HA implemented, there will be for sure some outage of services when upgrading. 

Guess you're talking 2008R2 -> 2016. You'll have to go for 2012R2 first, there is no direct upgrade path to 2016.

Upgrade your existing servers to 7.15 first. Then you can build new 2016 servers and swap them out. I have some info at https://www.carlstalhood.com/xenappxendesktop-upgrades/#deliverycontrollers

Hi Carl,

does it also work for Provisioning Services 71.5Cu4? I want to upgrade W2008R2 to W2016 detaching the local vdisk folder and reattaching the vdisk folder to the W2016 Server. 

In the future I plan to upgrade PVS 7.15CU4 to the next LTSR.
