Browser Content Redirection with Google Meet

Mike Kelly1709153237

Question

We are running a windows 10 1703 64bit enterprise Xendesktop VDI with the 7.15 CU3 VDA (with the BCR install) and have also tested the 1811 VDA.  In both scenarios I've been unable to get Google Meet to work with Browser Content Redirection.  YouTube however works great in both IE and Chrome!

I've added the URL to the GPO - https://meet.google.com/* but I don't see any redirection happening as the HDXBrowserCef.exe process doesn't show up on the endpoint like it does with YouTube.

I went through this CTX article - https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX230052 and couldn't find a reason for Meet not working...  I've reached out to our Google support rep and am waiting to hear back but in the meantime...

Has anyone been successful in getting Google Meet to work with BCR?

Most websites today rely on a child website for authentication.

In this case , it is https://accounts.google.com

So BCR has to be made aware of that.

The way to do this then is to whitelist this URL under the "Browser content redirection authentication sites"  policy in Studio.

Add the entry https://accounts.google.com/* and Meet should be redirected successfully.

I added the explanation to CTX238236 also, just in case.

Let me know how it goes.

We have imported the Browser Content Redirection ADMX into our Ivanti Environment manager configuration and I am applying the settings at computer startup.

We are using 7.15 Cu3 with the BCR.msi install.  Youtube works great!

Meet still isn't working...

I have placed https://accounts.google.com/* under the Browser Content Redirection Authentication Sites Configuration section of the GPO.

https://meet.google.com/* and https://hangsouts.google.com/* are both listed in the Browser Content Redirection Configuration section of the GPO.

It's my understanding that youtube.com is in there by default? Is there a way to verify the settings in the GPO are actually applying?

In this article it mentions "registry override" - https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/policies/reference/ica-policy-settings/browser-content-redirection-policy-settings.html

I'll give that a shot... just curious if there's a way to validate the GPO settings though. Thanks!

Glad to hear.

The gpo is supposed to set the regkeys. If the regkeys are not there, something is wrong with the gpo processing.

Setting the regkeys manually should fix that.

In your testing, were you able to get screen sharing to work with Google meet and BCR?

We were able to get Meet to work with BCR but attempting to use screen sharing we receive the following errors.

I run into this same issue with GTM so it leads me to believe that screen sharing with Webex, GTM, Meet, etc and BCR is NOT supported as it flat out does NOT work.

HI Mike

seems like there is an intrinsic limitation in Chromium, imposed by Google. This used to work and now broke. We are investigating this issue - seems like there is a solution but this would need to be productized. We have reached out to Google and are tracking this issue internally under bug HDX-16273,

Thanks I assume the fix will come in the way of a new version of workspace app?

Yes, it is a CWA-side fix only. Google told us what to do to make Hangouts/Meet work, it is a rather simple fix so we will try to put it in the next release but I can't promise.

As soon as I have more details I will update the thread.

That would be fantastic if we could get it in the Q1 release of workspace app.  Would we be able to submit a support ticket to get it outside of the normal release cycle?

Also,

Any news on when Integrated Web authentication will be supported with BCR?

That is something we desperately need to go full production with BCR.

Is anyone still successfully using BCR with Google Meet? After entering the meeting code I briefly see the getting ready/camera is starting screen and my webcam starts. I am then taken to a page which states 'You can't join this video call'. Interested to know if anyone has this working.

BCR is in general is working and for YouTube it works perfectly.

Hi Fernando,

Would you be able to help me out enabling IWA please?   Also do you know if any progress has been made with HDX-16273?
