Desktop stuck in black screen after updating to 18.9

Question

After logging in Citrix and selecting the application for the Remote Desktop, it opens a black window and it stays this way forever. The window is responsive in the way that it can be resized and the options are available, its even possible to enter the preferences. However the screen keeps black.

I switched to a Windows 10 VM running on VMWare Fusion 11 on Mojave to try and get around this black screen issue, which I am also seeing. But the Citrix Workspace app crashes the VM.

So if the devs can fix this... that would be great!

(update 22/Oct if you shutdown the fusion VM guest and turn 3D Acceleration off you can then run Citrix Workspace inside your VM fine)

We had a user getting a white screen on MacOS.  Older imac model and they had an external monitor plugged in for a second screen (may or may not contribute to the glitch)

Tried reinstalling, deleting preference files and cache files.  Basically everything in the ~/Library folder with filename that included citrix and it did not help.

This command got them connected.  Just had to make sure that all citrix processes were stopped first before setting this preference on the command line.  Quitting the menu bar icon and any viewer sessions that were running seemed to be required.
