Windows 10 Updates reverts NIC to Realtek Driver

Ben Yarwood

Question

I'm having an issue with Windows 10 (and Server 2016), it is using the Realtek Fast Ethernet NIC driver rather than the XenServer PV Network Device.

I've tried re-installing the xs-tools but this doesn't seem to have helped.

I've tried creating new VMs for Windows 10 and Server 2016 and the issue persists - I cannot get it to use XenServer PV Network Device and not the Realtek driver.

The host is 6.5 and has the following updates applied.

I'm not sure what XenServer 6.5 fully supports Windows 10/Server 2016 since those came out after the XenServer version did.

You can try removing all of the registry/file from the XenTools installer and try again, but you may very well be fighting a losing

battle and will need to upgrade XenServer.

Just tried this now and XenTools doesn't want to install properly again by the looks of it.

Upgrade time it is then!
