PVS Imaging Wizard cannot connect to server version prior to 7.15

I am building a lab environment to see if Xendesktop and PVS is a good solution for our business. I have build a PVS server with the latest version I could get, PVS 7.15 LTSR.

From the same installation media I installed the Citrix 7.15 LTSR Provisioning Services Target Device x64. When I run the wizard and try to connect to the PVS server, I get the following Error:

So I found the solution. The PVS server computer account did not have the db_owner permission on the SQL database. Added this and it worked.

 

Still odd that googling this error just gives no hits at all.

very strange - had this issue in two different environments with 7.15.3 and setting db_owner fixed it. 

 

using SQL express 2017 here

I had the same issue today. Granting db_owner to the service account is not a good solution and some DBA may not accept this.

The solution is to grant VIEW DATABASE STATE to the service account.

Thank you very much for this answer, had exactly the same Problem with 7.15.

I also noticed that the "Version" information wont open on the PVS Console until I changed the mentioned permission.

Same issue on new 7.18 deployment with SQL 2017. Assiging PVS server computer account db_owner permission fixed it.

You mean adding PVS server name to the Database? 

 

I tried adding the server name CREATE LOGIN [MyDomain\MyComputer$] FROM WINDOWS; like this in SQL Server and it errors out.

 

Can you let me know how you add the computer account and assign appropriate permissions.

I have added domain\pvs_server$ to my SQL server and grant db_owner to it.

 

You can try SQL Management Studio > 

Your SQL Instance > Security > Logins > New Login

- add PVS server computer account

- User mapping > map to your PVS DB and db_owner membership

- save

 

You can validate that by:

go to YourPVSDB > Security > Users >

your domain\PVS_server$ should be listed in there, you can open properties and check membership, db_owner must be selected

SQL Management Console - Logins - Properties to PVS server login - User Mappings - check db_owner - apply and fixed
