Hello,

I'm working on proof of concept for Linux 7.13 VDIs and I keep encountering initial connectivity issue every few days - initial connection from Citrix Receiver is initiated, I get is grey screen only and for such sessions username is shown as dash in Xendesktop Studio. Please check png file attached for example. I struggle to find any error message anywhere when it is happening.

As this point the session is stuck - when VDI gets rebooted session stays present in Xendesktop Studio. When I attempt to log off via right click and logoff option in Xendesktop Studio I get "Unable to find a session with this SessionKey" in vda.log. And is it happening only when connecting to Linux VDIs, Windows ones are not affected. It may be worth mentioning that there is no single process with user uid running on Linux VDI side so hings go wrong past spawing X (which is fine) and pre spawning gui (which is not spawned).

I could do with an advice how to debug this problem, ideally:

- how to make all components on VDI side as verbose as possible? is there any documentation how to achieve that? The problem now is that there are no data to work on as there are no error messages.

- how to wipe session with user dash from Xendesktop Studio? The plan is to power Linux VDI down, then wipe session out and power Linux VDI up. Is there a way to request logoff/removing a session in Xendesktop studio no matter what state it is in and without Xendesktop talking to VDI?

- any advice how to pin what process may be responsible for such behavior? i would want to narrow this problem a little bit.

Best Regards,

Marcin Mogielnicki

Hi Marcin,

For your two questions:

  • How to make all components on VDI side as verbose as possible.

I think you can install trace package for lvda so that you can get abundant log.

  • ‚ÄčHow to wipe session with user dash from Xendesktop Studio.

First you can get the session ID by running command '/opt/Citrix/VDA/bin/ctxqsession', and then logoff session using                   '/opt/Citrix/VDA/bin/ctxlogoff $ID' or '/opt/Citrix/VDA/bin/ctxreset $ID'.

Qianqian Zu

Hi Qianqian,

I just updated Linux VDA to 7.14 and I struggle to trigger this issue. I will keep thread open for some time, but generally I expect to be back with either much more data thanks to setlog or saying that update resolved the issue.

Hi Marcin, generally it's not recommended to turn on trace level of all components to VERBOSE. It will produce so much data as you see. For this issue, you can only turn the related modules (LOGIN/FM/GFX) to INFO for any clue. If update doesn't resolve the issue and those logs don't report obvious error, please turn to Citrix Techniqual Support team to open a ticket for futher investigation.

Same error, XD7.15 on ubuntu 16.04, grey screen when logging in, is this a bug?

In my case, when I see a grey screen when logging in, it is usually a problem with the L.D.A.P. configuration, specifically with the ListOfLDAPServers and ListOfLDAPServersForPolicy registry keys (I know that this is Linux, but the V.D.A. seems to make a postgresql database that simulates a Windows registry).  If you run '/opt/Citrix/VDA/bin/ctxreg dump | grep -i ldap', it will show you what these keys are set to.  I would try setting them to a limited list of servers and then restart the ctxvda and ctxhdx daemons.

I hope that this helps and that I'm not completely wrong about your situation.  I have a question regarding ctxreg, but I'll make a separate thread, since I don't want to hijack this one.

Hi Micgra,

Did you encounter the grey screen during logging in?

Could you please attach screen shot and describe more detail?

Thank you.
