Slower than expected performance in RDP through ICA

We publish RDP as a Citrix app so admins can jump to additional servers.

I'm noticing an issue where there is a user input delay when connected to a server with RDP through an ICA connection. When the user types in a published Notepad app in the same session, the response is fine. When the user types in Notepad opened on the remote server with RDP, there is a delay. It is slight, but noticeable. The greater the latency from the user endpoint, the greater the delay in the RDP session. But again, the ICA session always has less delay.

Obviously I realize there is additional processing required on the remote server, but the XenApp server and the remote server are on the same internal network (1ms).

Maybe this has do with the way the data is processed or rendered in the additional session? Possibly RDP encryption levels?

I'm just curious as to what would cause this.
