Cloud Connector keeps rebooting my server

Aaron OReilly

Question

I have a 7.13 Delivery Controller with the Cloud Connector installed on it for use testing App Layering, Smart Tools etc.  Today I happen to be logged onto the server and get a popup telling me that I'm being signed out as Cloud Connector is restarting the server to perform a maintenance operation.  No way to stop or suspend it so got kicked out.  After it came back up tried to find out what was going on.  No logs in Citrix Cloud to look at so started with event logs on the server and found the standard shutdown initiation.

Event ID 1074 - User32

The process C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe (CTXDC10) has initiated the restart of computer CTXDC10 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Application: Installation (Planned)
 Reason Code: 0x80040002
 Shutdown Type: restart
Comment: Citrix Cloud restarted the machine to complete a maintenance operation on the Connector.

However while looking at the log, the Connector rebooted the server again!!!!  Of course as these are unscheduled reboots it logs tickets in the monitoring system that then have to be actioned.

Anyone know how to stop, or at the very least schedule windows for these "maintenance operation" reboots?  At this stage I'm just going to be abandoning the Citrix Cloud integration altogether and uninstalling the connector to prevent this occurring again.

Aaron here to help. There has been a bug identified regarding some aggressive rebooting patterns given the state of select cloud connectors (windows putting the machine in a pending reboot state / pending windows updates, etc.). We monitor and work to manage reboots on the system in order to minimize any downtime across all connectors.

That being said, If you provide your customerId / information I can directly address this for you. Feel free to e-mail me directly (john.cattaneo@citrix.com) or provide the customerid information here (or in a support ticket).

However, installing the Cloud Connector on a DDC is not a supported configuration and will cause issues. Please setup a separate /  domain joined server OSs for your cloud connector(s)

I know this thread is old old old... But I just ran into this on... yes.. a DC.. which I know I'm not supposed to do...

On my Server 2016.

That being said, you have about two minutes after you log on to perform the following steps.

Get to computer manager | Services. Find the Citrix Cloud Services Agent Watchdog service. Disable it.

Bingo. That appeared to work for me.
