Hi Everyone,

Great day to all!!

In our existing environment we are having PVS 6.1 version with XA 6.5 and we installed new PVS server version of 7.6. But we haven't upgrade the target device as we are using existing vDisk.

Please suggest me, will PVS 7.6 compatible with Target device 6.1 or we need to upgrade the target device too? If so pls suggest me how to upgrade the Target device version from 6.1 to 7.6.

Thanks in advance

To upgrade the target device software, you need to reverse image. Here is one method - http://www.carlstalhood.com/pvs-update-vdisk/#reverseimagebcdedit

If you have Hyper-V, you can directly boot the VHD.

The older target device should work with the new PvS server.

When you get to 7.6.1 or newer, you don't have to reverse image to upgrade the target device software.

If you contact a Citrix Partner, they can help you Reverse Image.

I use the NFS method.

I have NFS installed on my PVS Servers so its easy to move the VHD back and forth for modification without the need to reverse image.

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for your reply!!

In our environment we are having VMWare. will it work for this scenario as well?

I don't have VMWare, but I don't see why not. You're just getting the vhd file moved over from PVS to NFS so you can then use that with a VM. Once done making modifications you move it back to PVS.

VMware can't directly boot VHD.

You can follow my procedure to copy it to a VM that can boot the VHD. Or you can build a Hyper-V nested VM that can boot the VHD.
