PVS 7.6 & XenApp Excel frequent Crashes

Dear people, 

 

In our environment we're running into the problem that from time to time users are complaining about Excel crashing. we are unable to locate the problem, however when using excel on a server which is not provisioned there is no problem. but since the problem is from time to time its difficult to tell for sure.

 

Sometimes it occurs when they are opening an existing document, but sometimes it also happen when they open Excel, or click the new document button. Basically at any given moment it could happen.

 

We have a average of 650 users concurrently logged in and there are divided over 66 XenApp Servers. Each Xenapp server has 14 GB Ram, 4 CPU's and a 30GB D drive (which is on a SSD on the host server) 

The servers are configured the cache in RAM with overflow to disk, with 2048MB as Max to be cached in RAM

 

XenApp 7.6

PVS 7.6

Server 2012 R2

RES One 2015 Workspace Manager

Office(/Excel) 2013 Proffessional Plus 32bit

 

The servers reboot every day and are not especially high on load when it happens.

In the eventlog it just logs a Appcrash for Excel.exe with a 0xc000005 error code

It only seems to be happening to Excel, no other applications

 

Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

Or if its even a PVS Issue, at this point I'm not even sure anymore.

Have you tried changing the caching mechanism?  Say put it straight to disk?  I've seen some odd app issues with cache in ram with overflow.  That or increase the amount of ram so it doesn't destage to disk.
