i have recently deployed PVS 7.12 on vSphere 5.1 with 2012 r2 PS, the images frequently freeze on boot displaying the Windows logo and not progressing or they boot and say there has been a problem and then restart.

anyone else seeing similar issues?

no unfortunately, that seems to have made no difference, going to remove the AV to rule that out

can you collect a network trace and logs (set the target to debug log though not sure we will get anything) and collect a crash dump here is the instructions from http://support.citrix.com/article/ctx125086

i have disabled task offload (surprised i had to do this as i thought the later versions of PVS did this with the installer)

disabled IPV6, have no AV installed but the problem persists.

The VM shows high CPU and hangs at the boot logo

the crash dump cannot be converted(see error below)

Cannot recognize Windows VM.
Error parsing Windows data.
Cannot create memory.dmp
The BSP was not using paging.  Check that the VM was running Windows.
Finished writing core.

I have the CDFmonitor running, shall i upload the trace files here? (i have a Citrix case open)

Have you checked out my issues with PVS server 7.11, http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/383611-issues-with-extreme-slownessfreezing-when-pvs-vdisk-is-in-maintenance-mode-write/

It might not be exactly the same issue since our images boot up fine in read only mode (production), but when in maintenance mode we have severe storage issues.

1. Have you checked if you get exessive retries in the PVS server?

2. Have you checked http://www.carlstalhood.com/category/provisioning-services/  BNIStack part:

  • IosRequestThreads (DWORD) = try 2 and if the retries persist try

We now have VMware involved in our case (plus Citrix) and is seems to be an issue with VMware/XenServer 7/PVS 7.11 in our case. Our next step now is trying to install a PVS server outside the VMware cluster and skip the hypervisor as we suspect the issue beeing caused by VMware.
