Usb redirection and Auto switching from optimized to generic mode

Hi,

how we can set the citrix receiver or the citrix policies to automatically redirect USB storage device with Generic mode redirection?

 

I followed suggestions here http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/361179-redirect-usb-device-automatic-with-generic-instead-of-optimized/ but the usb key continue to be redirected in optimized mode.

Please add below registry to enable auto redirection of storage:

HKLM\Software\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB\Devices

AutoRedirectStorage=dword:1

Also you will have to select below options in cdviewer preferences:

1. when session start connect device automatically

2. when new device attached connect device automatically

In my client I modified AutoRedirectStorage to 1, now the USB storage is automatically redirected but is still in optimized mode.

Does anyone know how to enable automatic redirection of USB mass storage (class 08) using "generic" virtuale channel?

We are using Xendesktop 7.7 and last version of receiver.

Hi Sove,

 

If the device is redirected inside the vda session then on client device manager it will not be listed.

I assume it is the same case for your mass storage device as well.

 

For more clarification:

After your add registry AutoRedirectStorage=dword:1 ,  mass storage will behave as generic device for redirection 

 

But for all generic device to be redirected you always have to select below options in cdviewer preferences:

1. when session start connect device automatically

2. when new device attached connect device automatically

 

So overall you have to add registry and set checkboxes in preference , connections tab for autoredirection to work smoothly.

Now the redirection in generic mode works.

The problem was that in "Client USB device redirection rule" I have manually inserted some rule like "Allow: class=08"; after I have enabled "Use default value" and with your suggestion the redirection works as I wanted.

Can I do generic redirection with smart card reader? It works also with the linux receiver 13.3?

The only issue with that is that it applies to all connected USB devices; you can't specify which devices you want connected in 'Generic' mode automatically. For this reason, we have taught our users to switch to Generic when they plug in one of their USB microphones that requires the setting.

Can you be provide more information to redirect specific USB devices as Generic channels rather than optimized channels ??
