This is what we get on the display control panel on our 2008r2 xa6 servers. On our 2003 xa4.5 servers users can adjust their font size as desired. Now on the new servers this doesn't seem to be possible - font size is greyed out.

Why is this and how can we fix it?

Hello Wes Lazara

Do you have a solution for the problem?

We have the same problem....

Best regards
Oliver

This is a change introduced in Windows Server 2008. Users can't change their font sizes using the standard Windows option - it's locked down to admins, on the basis that it's a server wide setting. We Citrix \ terminal server people know of course that per user settings are needed (as it was in 2003!). This is the same in R2. We engaged Microsoft and developed a utility that allows users to change their font sizes. It basically imports in registry keys that set the font sizes, depending on what option they choose in the utility.

I knew I was going to be asked that! ;-) I am more than happy to, but Microsoft co-developed it with us so I should probably check with them that this is okay. Will check now and report back!

Is good you can give us the tool. Even better, however, Microsoft gives out the tool in final mode. ;-)
Thanks for your help!

Best regards and a good weekend
Oliver

I've got the ball rolling with Microsoft - so will post details if and when I get the go-ahead. Microsoft making it available directly might even be an option.

Great! Microsoft didn't offer us a tool - we had to manually adjust the registry for the one user that really needed this taken care of (which was a pain).

Hope they release it!
Thanks Mark,
Wes

We worked on the tool with Microsoft, so maybe was handled a little differently to most cases.

Hi,

Sorry for not getting back to you all. I asked Microsoft if I could make the tool available or if they could. Apparently they couldn't make it available for download off their site because of the testing and signoff process that it needs to go through. I thought it would be positioned as a systinternals type of tool. So I asked if I could share it and they were going to check. You know, I don't think I got an answer, so let me go check. I will give them a nudge and post back the response.

Sorry for the delay again,
Mark

Sorry folks - still waiting to hear back. The reason why I thought I'd best check with Microsoft is because we co-wrote it with a Microsoft engineer. I just forced the issue again with them, so bear with me.

I have received confirmation that I can share the font size changing tool! It may be best if I email it over, if you send over an email address. I will also try and make it available for download on a web site.

Regards,
Mark

Will send it over. Also, this evening I'll try and put it on a site for download - that'd be easier for people to get it.

I will email the tool over this evening to those who haven't yet received a copy.

Okay, those who requested it should hopefully have the tool (and supporting documentation) now.
