XA 713 VDA Unregistered for a few seconds

Hello, 

 

Recently we went from XA 76 to 713, ever since we see in the log often a machine failure.

after taking a closer look it seems that once in the so much time the VDA is unregistered for a very short moment.

 

What i see in the eventlog for the VDA is this: 

Warning 1050:

Connection validation failed on domain '' for user '' for reason 'Deny'.

 

3 seconds later: 

Warning 1048:

The Citrix Desktop Service is re-registering with the DDC: 'NotificationManager:NotificationServiceThread: WCF failure or rejection by broker (DDC: FQDNofDDC)'

 

Everything continues to work, no weird issues either..

I just don't have a good feeling about machines being unregistered for a few seconds every once in a while. (about 10 every 2 hours we have 72 Xenapp Servers.)

Is the session linger enabled or not?

 

I have seen similar issue happen when session lingering is enabled.

Hi, I have searched regarding to session lingering, i saw it only applies to published application.

We only publish Desktops.. so this wouldn't apply to our situation.

 

Any other bright ideas? :o

Hi, in my environment Lingering is disabled, but is see the same problem.

I have checked all my ts logs and found no entries to that time when vda shortly is deregistered.

I only see that in director.

Do all of these machines get their IP via DHCP? What is the length of the lease?

 

Are all DNS servers valid on the NICs for both DDCs and VDAs?

They do get their IP through DHCP, however they're all reservations.

So lease expiration shouldn't be of concern.

 

im 99.5% certain the DNS servers are correct on all the machines (there haven't been any changes in it for years)

but ill check on monday to be absolutely certain

In Windows Eventlog I can see error 4004 (The Windows logon process has failed to terminate the currently logged on user's processes.) and event 1007 (The Citrix ICA Transport Driver connection from x.x.x.x:49299 has been closed.)

 

VDA 7.13 and Broker 7.13

 

Anyone else facing the same issue ?

I'm seeing the same thing when I run that query but I'm not seeing those eventlog entries when I check around the time that the VDA is unregistered.

We still have the problem as well.

But its not after a reboot as you do. for us its just randomly during the day while users are working on it.

As far as we know the users don't even notice it.

 

as for the question before. Our DNS Servers are valid.

No it is also not only after reboot. It also happens the whole day for me.

If you look in the logfiles around that time from the TS then you could see that there is a failed login, which seems to cause the vda to do that. Could you confirm that ?

in the security logs its very difficult for me to find any related logs, there's a certain application spamming the Security Log

I do see a Security log recurring on the machines around the specific time on the machines

but its a Audit Success

I have the same issue with a 7.13 farm that's been upgraded from 7.11.  Disabled both prelaunch and lingering with no effect.

 

Has anyone else been able to solve this?  I logged with Citrix Support and after analysis they came back with:

 

"Two issues are visible in the traces: 

 1) VDA is getting deregistered due to reconnection failure . 

 2) Re-connection attempts are failing . 

 

First one is a known issue LC0251, which is fixed in 7.6.3, not sure why we are seeing this issue again. The cause of second issue is not very clear, but RPM.dll seems to be the culprit which is not showing any activity and seems to be stuck. 

 

As a work around we can try increasing the concurrent logon limit of delivery group and test again. However to reach the root of the issue we need a complete memory dump of the VDA for analysis. "

For me increasing of that value has not improved the situation. It was at 5 and i have increased it to 10

No solution for me yet..  I had hoped for one since apparently quite a few people have this issue.

We reverted back to 7.11 and the issue is away. Will try to upgrade five VDAs tomorrow and try to catch the issue for citrix support while running a trace.

Anyone hear anything on this?  I'm seeing the same on 7.13 on 2012R2 VDA's.  It's hard to get a trace because it's pretty sporadic across about 70 servers.

We've had the issue daily across 20 XenApp VMs, so far Citrix have only been able to confirm yes it's happening.  no word on a fix yet other than the suggestions already in this thread, none of which have worked for us.

For me nothing has changed on my ticket. I have collected a CDF Trace from VDA who had the probelm.

The logs are analysed an ticket is now on escalation.

As i have reverted back to VDA 7.11 i have no issues at the moment.

Is there anyone who have testet VDA 7.14 ? Is the issue still there ?

FYI We have our issue resolved, Citrix provided us with an updated rpm.dll file for our 7.13 environment.  This fix is *not* present in 7.14.

I have opened up a ticket (#73250890), but it has already been closed. Could you take a look at this? Sorry, most of the text in the ticket is in German, so I will write some more information in here (emphasize in uppercase just for clarification):

I asked about hotfix LC7799 and if it was applicable for VDA 7.11 too, as we are still using this VDA (because of another issue with an already opened ticket...).
Support answered me, that LC7799 was already INCLUDED in VDA 7.13 and 7.14.
That was not what was written in this discussion. I told Support, that I think there might be a mistake, as the hotfix seems to have been written FOR 7.13 and 7.14 was already superseded by VDA 7.14.1 by the time of the posting about LC7799.
As an answer, I got the information that LC7799 is NOT INCLUDED in VDA 7.14.1 AND WILL NOT BE INCLUDED in VDA 7.15.
Now the ticket is closed.

So, Support says VDA 7.13 and 7.14 include LC7799. That seems odd.
Also, Support says that VDA 7.14.1 does not include LC799 and 7.15 will not include it.

Can you try to clarify this?

I can confirm you that LC7799 is not included in any of the current versions yet.

 

However, private fix is available for the newer versions and can be requested from the support.

 

The Fix could be included in 7.15, there is no decision taken on it yet.
