I installed (upgrade from 7.9) 7.11 on my Delivery Controllers where also the Director is installed. Since then I have no new Data on the Director Dashboard (Session Connected, Average Logon Duration, etc.).

Further I can't see Logon duration data inside the Session details. Before of the upgrade this worked fine. Nothing changed on the VDAs.

I have this event in Event log which is maybe corresponding with that:

Any Ideas?

Hi Sacha,

Is there any error or warning thrown on DDC by Citrix Broker Service?

Regards

Vindhya

It's self-healed after a restart of the DDC. Thanks Vindhya for your reply!

Isse happen again, no Logontime visible in director, number of connected session not updated.

Similar like http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/375162-director-dashboard-is-displaying-less-sessions-connected-than-it-should/ and https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/381428-director-711-several-issues

Yes it will worked for some hours / days, then it will stopped working again. The net stop / start trick will not always work.

Sometimes a restart from the ddcs helped sometimes sql server sometimes nothing helped. I think there is a problem with sending or receiving the information from the database. Hope there will be a fix soon.

Hi Sacha and Hauke,

What is the SQL Version used for this? And was it upgraded from 7.9/earlier versions or a fresh setup?

Regards

Vindhya

I've upgraded from 7.9 to 7.11, in this environment I have 600 VDIs, ~200 pooled and 400 dedicated. I have two DDC on which Director is installed and I have connected my XA 65 farm also to the director.

I have two other environments (dev/test and integration) on which I have the same configuration but much less desktops and I have the issue in dev/test but not integration.

Hi everybody,

I had the same issue after upgrading my controllers and Director from 7.9 to 7.11.
In my case there was an issue with the controller SPNs.

Please check the following for every controller:
setspn -Q http/<fqdn-of-controller.domain.com>

The output should indicate that the above SPN points to the correct controller and not to other AD accounts (i.e. used for Director load balancing).

If it points to a different AD account (other than computer account of controller), delete it and set again (if it's empty just set using "-S"):
setspn -D http/<fqdn-of-controller.domain.com>
setspn -S http/<fqdn-of-controller.domain.com> <Domain\hostname>
(Example: setspn -S http/ddc1.domain.com DOMAIN\ddc1)

Repeat for other controllers, replicate AD and restart Citrix Monitoring service.
You won't see "old" data as they are lost. But new connections should be visible again in Director.

I'm also having the issues Hauke Schillemat is experiencing with Director intermittently not working.  Server 2012r2, upgrade from 7.6 LTSR, Director is hosted on the delivery controllers (2) and running a supported version of SQL 2012 Enterprise (I think) but another group manages it.

Over the past week, I've had three instances of Director not working and one more Monday morning.  Two of last week's issues were resolved by restarting the Citirx Monitoring service.  For the last one, I tried restarting IIS... which hung and I couldn't kill it.  I ended up restarting the controller and the issue went away.

I'd like to get this issue fixed too.  I verified the SPN's on both of my controllers are fine.

I'm currently settings up a brand new XenApp/Desktop 7.11 environment and during testing I'm also noticing the same issues with Director not display stats. Front page shows no sessions and average logon duration, trends is empty except for Machine Usage, Filters Active Machines/Sessions etc is also empty. I can see the servers and users fine if do manual search. Restarting the Citrix Monitor Service helped a little with User session/connections appearing in Filter list and User Details page now showing Logon Duration but that was it.

Also got same error message as Sacha Thomet in post #4 when I restarted the Citrix Monitor Service. I had no errors on any servers or session hosts prior to that though.

Citrix Studio Search has no issues displaying correct number of Server OS Machines and Session and is up to date and accurate, so looks to be just Director.

With regards to SPNs, mine were currently empty but I have now set them and I'm not seeing any improvement after rebooting servers / services / new connections etc.

I did get an extra error event log after restarting Citrix Monitor Service again after setting the SPN: -

Source: Citrix Director Service

Event ID: 2

Description:

An unexpected error occurred when accessing the data source 'unknown error.' (http://servername.domain.com/Citrix/Monitor/OData/v3').

User: 'Domain\Anthony.Yates'

Console operation: 'Searching and retrieving sessions...'

Additional information:

'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'

For me the SPNs was not the problem, I still have this issue.

I don't even have http/ spns for the controllers. Never had and it always worked up until 7.11. I'm pretty sure that's not the issue.

Hm. Must have been a coincidence then. Metrics are gone again in my environment.

@All: If you query your monitoring database, do you see many NULL values in columns ClientSessionValidateDate, ServerSessionValidateDate as I do?

Query:

select c.id, u.username, u.[Sid], s.SessionKey, c.InteractiveEndDate, c.ClientSessionValidateDate, c.ServerSessionValidateDate,s.StartDate, c.Protocol, c.IsReconnect, c.ClientVersion from MonitorData.Connection c
join MonitorData.Session s on s.SessionKey = c.SessionKey
join MonitorData.[User] u on u. id = s.UserId
where c.Protocol = 'HDX'
and c.IsReconnect = 0
order by s.StartDate desc

As I did not change my vDisk this must have to do with the controller updates itself.
