Dragging Scrollbar in Word/Outlook 2010 = no scrolling

John Rankine

Question

Testing Xenapp 7.5 with published desktops on 2008 R2 running Office Standard 2010. I have set the policy to be High Definition User Experience and the standard unfiltered policy but it doesn't make a difference. When I scroll those apps with a mousewheel scrolling it is fine.

If I click the mousewheel and scroll its fine, but if I try to drag the scroll bar along the right side of the app and browse further down the contents of the document I get no scrolling until I let go of the mouse and it instantly snaps to the location at which point I let go of the mouse. It does not do this in Excel, Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions?

Solved the problem.

I had make 2 changes.

1.

Set the next key in your image of XenApp, reboot and seal the image.

·HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Citrix

  • Name: EnableVisualEffect
  • Type: REG_DWORD
  • Value: 1

2. Make a User GPO with the next settings:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control\Desktop

  • Name: UserPreferenceMask
  • Type: REG_BINARY
  • Value: 9812038010000000

And now I can drag en scroll within my Office 2010 application.

Hi, I´m having the same problem on my XA 7.5 / XA 7.6 farms running Server 2012R2, tough dragging the scroll bar doesnt work in any Office Applications at all. When connecting to the servers using RDP and with the "Menu and windwow animation" option enabled under the "Experience" tab it works just fine, so it has to be something with the ICA Connection that turns this feature off.

Did yoy ever find a solution for this?

Same Problem here with XENAPP 7.6 FP3 and Office 2010 + Server 2008R2. Although not having the problem with XENDESKTOP Windows 7 VDI's?! So have to be Terminal Server related.

Does anyone have a solution? Citrix can you help?

additional testing:

XenApp 7.6 FP3, Windows Server 2012R2, Office 2010, Dragging the bar doesnt update the document position until you release the mouse buttong.

Tried on Windows 10 VDI, no problem at all.

And now I can drag and scroll.  Notice the difference: UserPreferencesMask.  When I followed the initial directions and validated by looking at my user hive there were 2 entries in HKCU\Control\Desktop, both UserPreferenceMask and UserPreferencesMask.  Both REG_BINARY but the value of UserPreferencesMask was missing the 9812 and instead had 0000038010000000.  I modified that entry to have 9812038010000000 and rebooted the server.  The result was scrolling works as it should.

We confirm this tweak works, which solved the puzzle we had for many years! Thanks for sharing!
