Screen refresh stops working

Hi

I've set up a Shared Desktop Server Farm and currently test it. But the ICA keeps "freezing". Especially when I scroll in gridviews of our ERP.
Its like the connection died, but it still receives inputs. I can still klick and type, but I cant see it. The Activity Manager shows that there are new processes.
Not even reconnecting to the Session fixes this. The Screen stays black.
This happens in default "medium" quality ICA setting

When I set the ICA Quality to High, it does happen too, but I can get the picture back by switching between window and fullscreen.

Anyone else has this ?

Running on VMWare ESX 5.1
Server 2008 R2 with latest patches

Hello everybody,

thanks for the Information. Creating a policy and enable legacy graphics mode seems to be a valid workaround.
Although I also created a SR with Citrix. My SR# is 61128340 if somebody would like to refer to it.

I will also keep you updated

We see the exact same issue. With quality settings set to "Build to lossless" it happens more often than quality settings set to "High". When this happens, the session stays in a connected state even when the session is closed. A user cannot reconnect anymore. After killing "ctxgfx.Exe", the user can reconnect again.

 

Anyone got a solution to this?

+1 here.  Killing ctxcfg.exe allows reconnection (but unsure of the implications, if any, of doing this).

We are doing this for months now and we have not see any issue killing the process. I have a case running at Citrix now, but its hard to reproduce so its difficult to work on the case.

We are also experiencing this issue.

Server 2008R2 as well, except running on Hyper 3.0.

Clients are Windows 7 with Receiver 4.0.

Can we get a Citrix response on this?

We have got this working using version 14 of the client. The following registry key must be applied on the CLIENT machine:

HKLM\Software\[Wow6432Node]\Citrix\Xendesktop\DesktopViewer
DWORD: ThumbnailIntervalMS = 0

Note: This will kill the peek view in the taskbar and was found to cause "flickering" with the 13.4 client in our environment.

This didn't help. Anyways, it would only fix the Problem on Windows Machines.
But it should work on Thin Clients and MACs as well ...

Would be nice to hear something from Citrix about this Issue ...

I've got a ticket open with Citrix on this issue and currently on the phone with them. I experience the same thing. The ICA keeps freezing but it still accepts inputs but you just can't see it. Resizing the window will refresh the view and make it start working again

Ok this time he had me increase the Display Memory limit to the maximum. When I did this it didn't freeze right away. I was able to use it longer than normal but eventually it froze.

That is where we are at right now. Maybe increasing that (with the policies) might fix your issue.

I tested it in my XenApp 6.5 environment and it works fine. Seems to be a problem with XenDesktop 7

yes... I've got a 6.5 Env. running like a charm, but wanted to create a D7 Farm with MCS.

Too bad that Citrix doesn't Fix this problem quickly nor provides a workaround :\

Well we are currently running Citrix Scout and uploading all the CDF Trace logs. So hopefully we will get something back soon

I saw you are having the same problem posted in the forum. We believe we are seeing the same issue with Cisco CAD. Works fine under rdp, but under ica we get random freezes and resizing or disconnecting reconnecting resets it to work again. I'm going to open a ticket with Citrix today to try to accelerate the solution. Could you tell me what you're SR number is so I can refer to it.

Looks like wscott244 found a temporary solution!

I tested it in my environment and so far it seems to resolve the issue. It isn't a permanent fix so I will continue to work with Citrix and update the forums on their responses.

Work around:

To enable Adaptive Display First generation

• disable Desktop Composition redirection
• Enable legacy graphics mode
