Hi,

we received today a new server (R420) and then installed XEN 6.0.2 and OpenManage ( http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER00574061M/1/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-LX-7.1.0-5304.XenServer60_A00.iso ) but we aren´t able to connect to it from other W2003 server using the URL "http://192.168.0.10:1311/?authType=ntlm&locallogin=true&application=omsa".

There is a way to check if the services are installed and running?
Can this issue to be related with Firewall not allowing connections to port 1311?

Does anyone idea?

tks,

Renato P

The firewall is a good place to start. You can test disabling the firewall.
service iptables stop

You can see if the OpenManage stuff is starting on boot (dsm) by running
chkconfig --list

Keep in mind the OpenManage tools are not supported by Citrix, and if you ever open a support case, you might be required to rebuild your XenServer to troubleshoot other issues. If you purchased XenServer through Dell, you should open a ticket with Dell.

Hi,

I´ll try to open TCP ports on iptables according this article:

How To Use Dell OpenManage on a XenServer Host
http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX116325/

+8. After installation finishes successfully, change your firewall settings to allow communication through the ports that OpenManage uses, as follows:+
+a. Edit the firewall file:+
+# vi /etc/sysconfig/iptables+
+b. Add the following lines:+
*+-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 1311 -j+*
+ACCEPT+
*+Save and close the file.+*

I updated the iptables files as the article and then restarted the iptables but no sucess.
I stopped iptables service but no success also.

+dsm_om_shrsvc 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off+
*+dsm_sa_ipmi 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off+*

Hmm. What OM version are you running? Check out this doc.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smsom/7.1/en/omsa_ig/pdf/OMIUG.pdf

I'm getting "501 Method Not Implemented" Do you get the same error?

My main production is still on 5.6SP2, using OM 6.5 and the web interface works without issue.

Had the same issue with my R210. I downloaded OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-LX-6.5.0-3983.XenServer60_A02 and it worked perfectly. Version 6.5 of OM but works great! I can't get rid of the 7.1 I installed on one machine. I guess I am going to have to blow it away and start over. It is like Dell half released 7.1. The DVD that came with my machine seemed to have it on there as well but not specifically for XenServer.

Hi lepphce1,

I guess that OM version is '7.1' since the file name for download (link above) shows that.
The Dell support team asked me to check the steps described in the .pdf (page #61) link that you post, I ran the command as 'post installation taks' but without success. Even restarting iptables or Dell services ('dsm_om_shrsvc' and 'dsm_sa_ipmi').

Right now I'm able to use another pc to open URL against that server ('https://192.168.0.1:5986/' or 'https://192.168.0.1:1311/?authType=ntlm&locallogin=true&application=omsa') but after you agree with the SSL (self-signed) msg on your browser, shows the following msg error on windws title:

HTTP 501 Not Implemented/HTTP 505 Version Not Supported

Looking at website 'http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/Citrix/' seems that Dell still dont have documentation for XEN 6.
If you look the website for download OM for Dell servers('http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/poweredge-r420?DriverId=WHYF7&FileId=2988784692&urlProductCode=False') it shows that this versions is for our Dell server and compatible for XEN 6, but if expend time a little bit more reading the 'Other Versions' you´ll see that there are too much versions in a short time period - It let me think that this version is not finished yet.

Problem to access/manage fixed!
############################

* Install the Dell OpenManage for Windows v7.1 on some computer (w7 or w2k8).
* Open your local icon (probably it resides on your desktop)
* * * maybe you should use 'LOGOFF' link first and then click on the 'Manage Remote Note' link (on the botton of the webpage).
* * * Google Chrome Browser is not supported!
* input the XENserver IP + Port (for ie. 192.168.0.1:5896) and server credentials.

----------
Now you are connected and able do check/manage your XEN on Dell server!!!
----------

With this issue, we guess that there is some conflict to Dell OM 7.1 use the default port '1311' and then they changed in this version to use 5986, but for connect to it you should use a Dell OM for Windows in the same version or later. Even for Dell support TEAM it´s not clear if that port changing is related with the new server generations.

Before try to connect/manage your server with Dell OM for Windows, make sure that you can do that procedures:

Restart of services
################
$ sh /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/srvadmin-services.sh stop
$ sh /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/srvadmin-services.sh start

Check if the services are running
###########################
$ ps -ef | grep dsm

You should see something like:

[root@xenr420 ~]# ps -ef | grep dsm
root 8557 1 0 17:03 ? 00:00:00 /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/dsm_om_shrsvcd
root 9449 1 0 17:03 ? 00:00:03 /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/dsm_sa_datamgrd
root 10144 1 0 17:04 ? 00:00:00 /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/dsm_sa_eventmgrd
root 10215 1 0 17:04 ? 00:00:00 /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/dsm_sa_snmpd
root 13978 12480 0 18:00 pts/1 00:00:00 grep dsm

* * * If you have different results, maybe you can try to unistall using that command/script:
$ sh /opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/srvadmin-uninstall.sh

* * To install DellOM again, take a look on page #61 of the .pdf (link above).

I am having the same issues with it not listening on port 1311.

However, when trying to connect via another host running OpenManage Web Server (Windows 2K8 or RHEL) I get a Login Failed error:

Login failed....
Authentication failure. For more information, see online help.

Did you check if the services previous mentioned are running and that your Windows has the last 'OM for Windows' version?

Can you send a print-screen from your w2k8 server trying to connect to your xen server?

Sorry for 'stupid' question:

- Are you using the correct credentials (root + pwd)?

It's ok I questioned it myself a lot and double checked. I'm logging in using the root credentials of the Xen Server and have checked by logging in via SSH as root. Weird it can't seem to authenticate though. Should the Open Manage remote web server have anything else installed?
