I am having trouble with Citrix License Server Virtual Appliance

There are a number of problems I am facing

Basically, I am trying to apply a trial Platinum Server license which Citrix have supplied me with in an *.lic file format.

The name of the Xen Server I am trying to apply the license on is vps1 and so is the license file says

Problem is, I am unable to ping that IP address neither can I ping any other machine on the network

From Citrix License Server Virtual Appliance:

Apparently, there is an issue with the firewall on license server. So I turned it off and ping is working just fine:

Now it's time to start the license daemon from the web interface:

Everything seems to be going perfect so far

Now is the time to apply the license on my Xen machine. So we shall now move on to XenCenter

Could someone please explain me what the problem is. It’s my third day and I am still stuck in applying one single license.

Here is some information:

Xen Machine to apply license on: vps1
License Type: XenServer Platinum Edition
Ports settings is not changed, all defaults: 27000 for license, 8082 for web console

First of all it's by design that the appliance is not responding on ping requests and you shouldn't mess around with it. Next would be nice to see the dashboard of the web console to see what license are available by the appliance.
Also if you have issue with the license file itself only Citrix can help you with it.

Plus, I have restarted iptables.

Well the startup license doesn't help you at all and is more for XenApp.
You should see in the dashboard at least something with XenServer...

The license doesn't work for me but I think it got messesd up pasting it here. attached would be better.

After you have imported the lic file, did you re-start the licensing service?
Click on "Citrix Running" stop it and then start it again.

Okay, the problem is fixed.

The license file to be allocated should have the hostname of the "Citrix License Server Virtual Appliance" rather than the host servers.

We were issuing the license for hostnames "vps1" and "vps2" whereas it was meant to be issued for "xenlic" hostname which is the license server appliance.

Worked perfectly!

Does anyone know how to export the licence files from the appliance? I need to do this but cannot find a way to do it.

You can add small vdisk to license server
mount it copy license file to it.
Then you can detach vdisk and attach it to another VM with ssh daemon and get file through scp.
