Default Printer Disappearing

Weird issue I'm seeing in this environment. Using Client based printers with a Citrix Policy to make the users default printer the Citrix default printer. This will work fine on logon, but the default printer will disappear sometime during the session and a user will have to go in and reselect another default printer.

Has anyone else seen this behavior before?

I wouldn't use the word "disappearing." The printers are still visible in "Devices and Printers" but no default is set. All programs complain about setting up a printer, until a default is set again.

I used to have various problems with default printers, but moved to Session Printing through Citrix Policies and now there are no problems with my users and the default printers. Have you looked at this?

We use a mix of client printers and session printers. The Citrix Policy is to set the client default printer to the default printer in the session. This default selection is the one that keeps getting "unchecked" sometime in the session.

I have a customer whos users are complaining for the same reason. They can for example print two times to the default printer, and the third time (from the same session) there is no default printer..
We are using Client Printers with Citrix UPD in XenApp 6.

I don't know who you are Anthony Robinson but the printer disappears while in Citrix is a fact plain and simple. Yes it is still in the Default Printer listing but Citrix operates in its own environment and pulls from that list. So it disappears!

The problem is one minute it is there and the next it disappears. The only cure so far is to re-install the Citrix plugin or get completely out of the application. Which by the way we are using Homecare Homebase.

What we use copiers which is Laniers and Sharp. After we moved to Homecare Homebase using Citrix we were told to go to the Lainer Mini driver and for the Sharp what ever works. So here I am removing all of the printer drivers on over 250 computers and re-installing the other drivers.

So my huge beef with Citrix is why did they not write the app to actually work with the real native drivers and making it out like everyone else is not compatible with them. Pretty arrogant attitude for Citrix I would say.

So as I see from this thread there hasn't been any real resolution to the problem.

I found this solution
"Try to configure your Citrix print policy to specifically set your default printer. Go into your policy and enable the SessionPrinters policy. Set the clients default printer at the bottom of the policy to "set default printer to the clients main printer". Make sure this policy is applied to all servers in the farm. This may very well fix the issue for you."

Does it completely fix the problem? NOPE.... NO.... ABSOLUTELY NOT
Does it help? YES... DEFINITELY.... at least we only get 2 to 4 calls from users per day instead of 15.

Citrix, if you read this thread, please show us a solution!
